Project Description

“It’s time!” the homeowner’s of a beautiful Point Loma home declared. They had remodeled their bathroom in the 90’s, and a recent water leak prompted them to get started on an update. They wanted something more contemporary but with natural elements and a neutral palette.

They envisioned a shower wall of natural stone, so we started at the slab yard. I told them they have to absolutely love it since it would be the inspiration for the rest of the space. After several trips, they fell hard for the grey-green and white Sea Pearl quartzite. To complement the stone, a Walker Zanger shimmery glass mosaic was chosen for the tub surround walls and accent niches, and a grey porcelain tile selected for the flooring.

By straightening an angled wall, we were able to create a long, luxurious vanity with loads of storage. Tall, rectangular mirrors and sculptural pendants show off the high ceiling. Recessed cans over the sinks paired with the pendants give the perfect lighting for morning rituals.

The water closet borrowed a few inches from an adjoining closet to gain floor to ceiling storage. The cabinet was designed with an open area backed with the glass mosaic to create the ideal spot for objets d’art. Adding outlets to the upper portion gave the perfect place to recharge toothbrushes and razors behind closed doors. We raised the ceiling to match the rest of the bath and added a frosted, pocket door. The entire wall behind the toilet is covered in the shimmery glass mosaic. Why can’t every part of the bath be special?

A wall mounted, heated towel bar solved the problem of towels that never seem to dry in damp Point Loma. An access panel was added at the tub to ensure the ability to address any future water leaks promptly.

Since one of the homeowners is an artist, wall space was intentionally left vacant to hang future paintings. She has already hung a favorite piece done by her mother. Luxury emanates throughout this master bath, from the extra-deep soaking tub and dual shower heads all the way to the details of a decorative shower drain and high-end platinum matte fixtures.
