Continuing in our series of Unused Space to Show Place, we are showing you how we transformed a rarely used guest room into a master closet dream. Last week, we discussed how we transformed the existing master closet of this home into a new steam shower for the master bathroom. Needless to say, we needed to find a space to put this homeowner’s clothes. This hardly used, spare bedroom just so happened to be adjacent to the new master suite, making it the perfect location!
Since this busy bank executive traveled weekly for work, it was imperative that we make this room as organized and functional as possible. For organization and ease of packing/unpacking, we created a space for valet stand so this on-the-go exec could place her suitcase at a comfortable level. For more unique storage, we created thin velvet lined jewelry drawers in the built in dresser and charming storage boxes helped corral other smaller items. While the space needed to be functional, we still wanted to make the space pretty for her! Boutique style shelving did just this! Illuminated open shelving made it look like the handbags and shoes were on display. This also allowed for easy selection. By request, we also designed a vignette space as a place for inspirational sayings, family photos, and other things that just make her happy.
Because this room used to be a spare bedroom, there was an existing window and it is so luxurious to have natural lighting in a closet! To highlight this window, we dressed it up with a peacock feather print Roman Shade. We also placed a cozy chair right next to the window with a peacock decorative pillow to pick up on the pattern of the window treatment. And not only was the natural lighting a spectacular element in this new glamorous closet, but we also had a super fun light fixture called “Veli” by SLAMP that looked like soft fabric draped from the ceiling.
